Diageo India's Godawan, the artisanal single malt distilled in Alwar, Rajasthan, has added a new expression built specifically for the travel retail channel. The Triple Cask Travel Exclusive is now on shelves at Dubai Duty-Free, with an Indian debut at Bengaluru Duty Free ahead of a wider rollout across the country's duty-free network through the rest of the year.

The whisky takes its design cues from Rajasthan's ornate jaali latticework, a nod to the region's craft heritage. Maturation begins in ex-bourbon barrels before a finishing stage that layers PX sherry, virgin oak, and cherry wood casks together, a combination the brand says produces a golden-brown spirit with floral and fruity notes, a rounded, textured palate, and a gentle woody finish. It's bottled at 46% ABV in the standard 700ml format and will retail at roughly INR 5,500, positioning it as a premium gifting or self-treat pick for travelers.

Vikram Damodaran, Diageo India's Chief Innovation Officer, framed the launch as part of a broader push to establish Indian whisky within global travel retail's collector culture, positioning the release as a way to carry the brand's Rajasthan roots to an international audience while staying true to its terroir-driven story. Avolta's David Grady, whose Bengaluru Duty Free is hosting the domestic launch, called it a chance to give travelers access to a distinctive expression of India's growing premium spirits scene.

The move taps into a fast-growing category. Citing Grand View Research, the release notes the global duty-free liquor market was valued at roughly USD 7.49 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a 10.2% CAGR through 2030, as international travel rebounds and shoppers increasingly seek limited, collectible releases. Diageo India CEO & MD Praveen Someshwar pointed to airports as prime discovery points where curiosity about a product's backstory now drives purchase decisions as much as the liquid itself.

Since its 2022 launch, Godawan has built a reputation as one of India's most decorated single malts, anchored by three principles: craftsmanship, mindful luxury, and conscious consumption. Matured through Alwar's extreme desert climate, the range spans five expressions running from light and floral to rich, spiced, and full-bodied. The brand is named for the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard, and each bottle sold contributes to habitat conservation efforts in Rajasthan. The Triple Cask Travel Exclusive extends that story into a collectible format built for the global traveler.
