Red Eye Louie's: The Story Behind America's Innovative Spirit Blends

Spirits have always lived inside fixed categories — vodka is vodka, tequila is tequila. Red Eye Louie's set out to break that rule, building a brand around blending the character of different spirits into one bottle.

Founded in Birmingham, Alabama, Red Eye Louie's grew out of a simple question: what happens when you combine two spirits instead of choosing one?

That question led to a lineup of original blends, starting with Vodquila — vodka and tequila brought together — and followed by Rumquila, a pairing of aged Puerto Rican rum and premium tequila.

Where It Started: A Basement Bar in Birmingham

The idea took shape in 2010, in the basement bar of the Arora family home.

Chander Arora, an entrepreneur and former textile chemist, had long wanted to create a spirit of his own. A conversation with his daughter, Nina Arora, about cocktails turned into something more ambitious.

Instead of mixing a spirit with a standard cocktail mixer, they began exploring what would happen if two full spirits were combined directly — creating something neither could produce on its own.

The concept was simple to describe but difficult to execute: blend two spirits without losing what makes each one distinct.

Developing Vodquila

Getting from idea to finished product took more than mixing vodka and tequila together.

Chander and Nina partnered with Florida Caribbean Distillers in Auburndale, Florida, using specialised thermal blending techniques to find the right balance between the two spirits.

After weeks of testing and adjustment, Vodquila was ready — a blend pairing vodka's clean, neutral character with tequila's bolder personality. It became the first product to define Red Eye Louie's approach to spirit-making.

Expanding Into New Blends

Building on Vodquila's early success, Red Eye Louie's continued developing new combinations.

The brand launched Rumquila next, blending aged Puerto Rican rum with premium tequila to create a second distinct expression.

Each release reinforces the same underlying idea — that moving beyond traditional spirit categories can create genuinely new territory in the industry, rather than just another flavoured variant.

Craft That Goes Beyond the Bottle

The founders paid close attention to presentation as well as product.

Bottle design was built to stand apart on shelf, giving the brand a distinct, unconventional visual identity to match what's inside.

From the blending process to the final packaging, every decision was made with one goal: giving drinkers a spirits experience they hadn't had before.

Rethinking What a Spirit Can Be

Red Eye Louie's belongs to a newer generation of spirits brands willing to step outside established categories.

By pairing familiar spirits in unexpected combinations, the brand has built products for drinkers looking for something different — and memorable.

What began as a family idea in a home bar has grown into a recognised name in blended spirits, with Red Eye Louie's still guided by the same instinct: pair tradition with creativity, and see what happens.
